The four decades’ war and internal conflict in Afghanistan has massively degraded and affected the education system. According to the recent report of UNICEF and OCHA over 3.7 million out of schools’ children in Afghanistan, with a major percentage of girls, exist.

SADA, as a prominent advocate of girls’ education, has been deeply engaged with promoting education (with special focus on girls’ education). During the past 20 years, SADA has advocated for girls’ education in various forms such as campaigning on village, district and provincial level, training Shuras about the importance of education for the development of a society (especially girls’ education), arranging awareness programs throughout the villages and also arranging meeting with local influential figures about the necessity of girls’ education at SADA offices on monthly basis.

SADA encourages minimum reliance on outside sources, expertise, skills and tools by providing short-term and long-tern capacity building trainings and awareness-sessions for local people. Till date SADA has conducted numerous workshops in the sectors of Education, WASH, Agriculture, and Community Development for the communities in Kandahar, Zabul, Helmand, Urozgan, Faryab and Sari-Pul provinces.

Furthermore, SADA provide regular capacity building workshops and orientation-sessions for its national and provincial staff.

Educating female teachers with basic and advanced teaching methodologies skills is one of main working areas for SADA. The lack of qualified female teachers in schools is believed to be an important cause behind the low enrollment ratio of girls in most of the schools, knowing this fact, SADA took necessary efforts to train maximum number of female teachers about the basic and advanced teaching methodologies tools. SADA continuously advocates for the recruitment of qualified and trained female teachers in public schools.

SADA was the first ever national organization to recruit most female teachers in a CBE project in Urozgan and Zabul provinces in 2014.

Women make half of the Afghanistan population, which means it contributes equally in the development of a country. SADA has greater focus on maintaining women rights and believes in a women inclusive society.

SADA is committed for continuously advocating for the equal rights of women in Afghanistan.

Increased access to schools and CBE sites, and maintaining maximum attendance of students in classes is the ultimate desire of SADA. 

SADA has launched communities-wise back-to-schools campaigns across the 9 districts in Zabul province. These campaigns will continue regularly across all the CBE projects implemented by SADA. 

In the back-to-school campaigns SADA reaches out directly to community elders, Shura members, religious scholars and parents for the purpose of creating coordination and gaining their support for an increased enrollment ratio of students in schools and CBE sites. 

An improved Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) system is the fundamental need for any healthy family. SADA has greater importance for enhancing the WASH facilities across the country.

SADA was the first ever NGO to introduce CBE concept in Uruzgan (Chora and Dehrawod districts) and in Zabul (Arghandab & ShahJoy districts) in the year 2014.

Infrastructure development is necessary for enhancing the living conditions and standards.
SADA has 26 years experience implementing the infrastructure development projects and
programs in several provinces. Most of the work has been done in sheltering for internally
displaced people, distribution of solar panels, construction of gabion system, construction of
canals, rehabilitation of water storages and reservoirs, restoration of Karez systems for potable
water and construction of culverts and water wells

One of SADA’s key areas of intervention is to ensure poor, ultra-poor and vulnerable people
improve their nutrition and food security through the implementation of livelihood, food and
health projects. Therefore, SADA’s work is focused to enable small scale farmers’ businesses,
kitchen gardening, food-for-work projects, and technical trainings, so beneficiaries are able to
increase their productivity of agriculture and access markets in order to ensure food security of
their families.
SADA is particularly focused on the role of women, farmers, youth, IDPs, returnees, child and
female headed families and mothers. We implement Food Security, Nutrition & Health projects
with the aim to enable woman, man and child lead a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and
dignity.

areas of food security.
